Where We Begin marks the beginning of my exploration of the river landscape—made with plants gathered near the lower Sacramento River, close to my home. Though outside the American River itself, this is where the water continues west, and where my own journey with the river began.
Made with flax-leaved horseweed and wild grasses gathered along the lower Sacramento River near my home. I followed the natural gestures of the plants, allowing their forms to guide the composition. Their slender stems create a sense of movement while retaining their delicacy—a beginning shaped by what I found along the water.
